The Method The Stability Ball Workout

Intermediate and advanced exercisers looking for a challenge will enjoy this blend of Pilates, yoga, ballet, and fitness training all atop a ball. Beginners, however, may feel this workout should be called “Instability Ball.”(And they would do better starting with Quick Fix Stability Ball Workout, a shorter, easier program from the same production team.) Instructor Katalin Rodriguez Zamiar and her two able assistants helpfully demonstrate most of the moves once before beginning, making the DVD longer but less frustrating than usual. The 50-minute workout begins with a warm-up that includes pelvic rocks while leaning back on the ball and side lunges with one arm slung across it. Then it’s on to a 12-minute segment on legs: extensions and lunges with torso rotations. The arms get just five minutes and then it’s 11 minutes on the abs with sit-ups, scissors, the Pilates 100, triceps presses, single-leg pikes, crunches, and back bends. An 8-minute session for the gluts wraps things up with the phenomenally complicated frog move. At that point everyone should welcome the cool down! –Kimberly Heinrichs

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Ehh…
I did not like it, maybe the ball thing isn’t for me. Too hard on my shoulders and elbow

4 Stars Pretty good for beginners.
I have tried other stability ball workout videos/dvds and found this one pretty comprehensive for a beginner. The instructor gives you the basics on how to use the stability ball including proper breathing techniques and posture (vital information for not hurting oneself). The instructor always gives you a preview of what the move is suppose to look like and how it is supposed to feel before you try out the move yourself. I have used the program on a regular, weekly basis and have always found it challenging so far. This program does offer some alternate moves for a more challenging or easier workout. However,I feel that it does not offer enough of a challenge option when I progress further. The chapter selections are by target body regions and very easy to navigate. You may choose to skip the introduction and go straight to the workouts when you feel more confident about your skills.

1 Star Awful
I really feel that I just wasted both my time and money with this DVD. The workout is so easy. Please, do not buy this DVD if you are alreay in decent shape. I have been doing pilates for several years and wanted to try something similar, but new and challenging. I really like, but struggle with Kathy Smith’s 20-minute BONUS stability ball workout in her Lift Weights to Lose Weight 2 DVD, and thought this would be similar. Boy was I wrong.

3 Stars just so-so
Like other reviewers commented, this is intermediate in intensity and gets boring quickly, although far from the worst I’ve seen. I like the Quick Fix – Stability Ball Workout much better, bought both at the same time and never use this one anymore.

2 Stars Not so great
I’ve owned this dvd for about a year and use it periodically for a switch from the ones I really like. The instructor is very wordy – there are big gaps so she can instruct before an exercise actually starts. I find her voice and her repeated “wunnerful” annoying. The exercises range from too easy to really hard. Music is fine, set is supposed to be a stage set of Great Salt Lake shore or something. I’m giving this dvd away now, after having given it a fair shot. Its boring and now, off even on my “alternative dvds” shelf.

Pilates On The Go For Golf is a challenging full-body program designed to help the average golfer improve their swing and sharpen their game! The Pilates method is a form of isometric exercises developed and practiced to simultaneously stretch, strengthen, tone and align the body, while eliminating excess tension and strain on the joints. Steve Pate’s name has become synonomous with the determination and drive for victory of the professional athlete. After a near career- ending accident, Steve Pate searched for altenative physical therapies to help expedite his recovery. It was then that he discovered the benefits and extraordinary power of Pilates training. Pilates has become a permanent addition to Steve’s day to day exercise and training regiment. He had discovered that Pilates unique design had long lasting benefits for flexibility, balance, and strength training-which all golfer’s can prosper from.

5 Stars Pilates on the Go – On the Ball
I find this dvd fun and relaxing to use. After my first session, I was so sore I had to wait about 3 days to try again. Fortunately, the workout is so enjoyable I eagerly anticipated my next pilates session with this dvd. After just two weeks I have grown stronger and feel more lithe and agile (in other words, graceful). Movement has become a joy again.

Maria Leone has a pleasant personality, she’s not irritatingly peppy or bossy; her instructions are easy to follow yet the excersizes are challenging. I highly recommend Pilates on the Go – On the Ball for beginners who need to regain their physical confidence and strength.

5 Stars Excellent workout on the ball
This is a great pilates based workout on the ball ,I was surprised no one reviewd this product and there weren’t even a picture so I decided to buy it based upon reviews on videofitness.com (I purchased it at a cheaper price at deepdiscountdvd).

The dvd quality is great and Maria Leone performs the workout at an outdoors location next to a pool and there’s a beautiful landscape of green hills. Maria’s instruction is clear and easy to follow , the workout starts with a little warm up with some bouncing on the ball which was really fun, afterwards there are some pilates abs based moves with the ball which were familiar from other ball workouts , there’s a fun exercise in which while lying on your back , you throw the ball and have to catch it between your legs, also theres some bridge variations on the ball

, back extensions , short sidework for the legs and some pushups

the workout ends with some very nice stretches. The workout is about 40 minutes. After the workout I felt calm and centered , this is not the most challenging workout you’ll find so I would say it’s good for intermediates and advanced people who want an easier workout, I wouldn’t recommend it for people with no experience working out on the ball or that are not in good shape.

I’m a pilates instructor myself and I would definitely recommend

this dvd.

5 Stars Effective and enjoyable workout
This has all the important aspects right. The exercise regimen has helped me loosen up and build strength after a serious injury. The movements are varied with several related movements to address muscle groups, but with only a few reps on any specific movement I haven’t gotten sore, but am developing strength and muscle tone.

Maria Leone is pleasant — she’s nice to spend time with 3 times per week.

This program is most suitable for regular people who want to build strength and flexibility. A super-athlete would probably want a more rigorous program.
