3 Stars Poor production techniques hinder this workout
Overall, the actual workout on this DVD is pretty good. However, there are several factors that keep this DVD from being great:

1) Camera changes angles way too often, making it hard to concentrate.

2) Background music is annoying and distracting. Keli talks almost constantly, and that combined with the music is just too much.

3) Setting is cold and unappealing.

4) One of the two background exercisers repeatedly demonstrates improper form, and it’s never corrected.

I have Keli’s Kickbox Bootcamp DVD and it’s one of my favorites. Her workouts are better when it’s just her, there is no music, and it’s filmed in a more home-like setting.

I sure am glad I rented this first.

4 Stars A great workout for intermediate/advanced exercisers
While the production of this DVD could have been better, it does provide a great workout to strengthen your abs and spine, and improve your posture. It always leaves me feeling pleasantly “stretched out” like a good Pilates session.

The cover says “Three 8-minute stability ball workouts”, so I was expecting three mini-workouts formatted a bit like the “10 Minute Solution” or “Quick Fix” series, but it is actually one continuous 30-minute workout, broken up into chapters you can choose from the main menu.

WORKOUT 1: Hovers/squat, core work, hamstring hover, back extension.

WORKOUT 2: Opposite arm/leg lift, spinal stabilization, stability ball between legs core work, single leg raise with rotation, roll-outs.

WORKOUT 3: Extension/rotation, lateral flexion, crunches, pike plank push.

There is also a brief warm-up and stretch.

As advertised, there is plenty of work in here for your back as well as your abs. There are some new exercises I haven’t seen before and some of them are pretty challenging.

Keli cues very well, makes sure you are keeping good form and is very motivating. And I like her Australian accent!

4 Stars One of the best instructors with another great workout :-)
Keli Roberts is in my top 5 best instructors out there. She is motivating, encouraging, tough and very knowledgeable. She is the kind of personal trainer you’d love to have because she’d get results out of you.

This is another great workout from her, and this time it uses a stability ball to work your core and develop balancing skills. Abs, spine and posture (how the workout got its name ASAP) is what this is all about and it looks easy, but you get a great workout. I like the fact that you can do the whole dvd in one go, or pick an 8 minute pre-mixed routine. Each routine has a focus on either balance/core, strength and strength/balance. She is a terrific cuer and so you know in advance what’s coming next and she tells you how each move will make you feel (so you get an idea as to whether you are doing it correctly or not). All you need is the stability ball and you are set to go. It’s a little over a half hour so it’s easy to fit into busy days, and I mix this up with aerobic workouts because there is none of that here. I love this and it’s a nice change to other toning workouts because using the ball is something different to do. I highly recommend this.

Swiss Ball Abs and Core

Swiss Ball Abs and Core

Adam Ford’s Swiss Ball Abs DVD will quickly increase your core strength and stability. This comprehensive core-conditioning program trains multiple muscle groups with functional integrated movements, incorporating your back and obliques as well as your abdominals. The three 20-minute workouts in Swiss Ball Abs will redefine your mid-section with cutting-edge exercises that precisely target your lower and deep abdominals.

Many people have done a few sloppy crunches on the Swiss ball but few have realized its full potential. Adam’s simple and safe 3-phase progression delivers remarkable results. You’ll enjoy increased functional strength, flexibility and balance through all three planes of motion. Whether just beginning or advanced, start Swiss Ball Abs now and get that `six-pack’! You’ll look great, and feel even better.

From the instructor: This is the second edition of my Swiss Ball Abs DVD. Most of the exercises are about the same as the first edition but the video footage and audio was totally redone when I produced my Swiss Ball Upper and Lower body DVDs. In response to customer’s feedback the second edition features better navigation and contains additional content like an FAQ section on sets, reps, etc. Thanks to everyone for your comments on the first edition!

3 Stars Poor Cuing and hasty Transitions
Three workouts; phase 1, phase 2, and phase 3

Cuing is poor and transitions too fast for a beginner. If you are a beginner and have never used a Swissball before expect some frustration. The video will be on the fourth repetition of the next exercise before you are ready to begin.

However, the angst caused by this will fade with practice and as you memorize the video which will render cuing unecessary

1 Star Swiss Ball Abs and Core
Wouldn’t recommend any DVD for ball exercise. Nearly important to view video and exercise especially when you doing lying exercise.

2 Stars Not for Beginners
This workout is extremely hard. It requires excellent balance which I certainly do not have. I am not in terrible shape either, but i could not do the workouts at all, even the beginner workout. I spent most of the time trying to figure out how to get in the right position or balance correctly. It is not worth it for a beginner or even the average fitness person.

5 Stars I can see my stomach muscles!!!
I love this DVD. I love the challenges, the pacing, the variety, and the duration. And the more times you do it, the harder it gets because you can do the exercises more precisely and focus on better form. The music could be better (tho phase 3 isn’t bad), but that’s not what’s important to me.

Granted, I have Swiss ball experience and my balance is pretty good. I’ve had personal trainers in the past, and have had years of yoga practice. I can see how beginners might have a hard time. Perhaps they could have a friend help them with their form, or just focus on doing a half version of the exercise at first (e.g., just hold push up position with toes on the ball, vs. also pulling the ball in toward your stomach and extending out).

I have a ruptured and herniated disc in my lower back, and have always had a soft squishy belly. Almost every morning I wake up with some level of lower back pain. You’d think the last thing I should do is a core workout. But it truly helps me get my day started without ibuprofen. The stretching at the beginning helps a lot, and the exercises are pretty safe. My core is getting so much stronger. I’ve been doing this video (mostly phase 2) and the Perfect Abs video 4xs/week for about 2 months now and there’s a definite difference in my appearance. I don’t have a six pack, but I’m not sure I’d want that as a woman anyway. I’m 36 and my 16-year-old nephew tells me my stomach looks better than his. Believe me, that was not the case 2 months ago.

5 Stars GREAT WORKOUT
I have been looking for a step-up in my Ab program and this fit the bill. The pacing is so correct because it allows me to make SURE that my form AND my breathing are correct. I have been doing Jane Fonda Challenge and Denise Austin’s Hit the Spot and Super Stomachs and some Tami oblique work with weights and needed a place to go. This one is it.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars An excellent swiss ball exercise dvd
I agree with the other reviewers, this is an excellent swiss ball exercise dvd. It is done on sand dunes, with blue skies in the background, which I find very relaxing. Excellent oral and physical instruction, and nice music.

The exercises range from easy to difficult. Some I could do the first time, others, like the side crunch I got after a few sessions, and others, like the superman I am still working to get. Do not mistake Basic with easy, this is a challenging workout for someone who is serious about swiss ball work.

The pace is just right, with stretches between most exercises. Not so fast that I need to pause it, not so slow as to be too slow.

5 Stars Good basic video
Great video for a basic level ball workout. Only complaint I could make is that it is so short and there are no variations to the short “full workout”.

4 Stars No nonsense workout
He can do all the exercises, moves methodically through them, and doesn’t waste time with phony encouragement. Good at showing positions from different angles.

5 Stars A Good Introduction To Stability Ball
Swiss ball basics is a 50 minute workout , there is only 10 exercises which are performed in 2 sets of about 10 reps , the instructor shows more advanced variations on the second set and does some stretches in between the sets. Though the exercises can be challenging , the workout is pretty slow paced and let you to concentrate in the exercises. The quality of this video is very good and it is filmed on a sanded area , the instruction is very good also and during the exercises there’s some animated pointers.

I think if youre in a good shape you’d be better off just buying his “swiss ball abs” it has most of the exercises from swiss ball basics but it has 3×20 minute workouts in different levels (but there all pretty tough).

5 Stars Best Medicine Ball Workout
I bought this DVD after reading the reviews written on Amazon.com and I have been rewarded beyond my expectations. It has only been few days since I received the DVD and already I can feel the adjustment that my body is going through after each exercise. I feel the pain in my muscles and I can see that the “Swiss Ball Basics” DVD by Adam Ford is a serious workout program.

The picture quality of this DVD is excellent and Mr. Ford gives a clear guidance how each workout should be done. This is the best DVD in its category that I have seen. In the past, I bought many fitness DVDs; including two by John Basedow (Fitness Made Sipmle – Unlock Your Potential and AM-PM Workouts), one called 8 Minute Workouts and another by Gunnar Peterson called “Core Secrets”, but non were as good as the Swiss Ball Basics. Either they were amateurish such as John Basedow’s DVDs or they were not as well as structured as Adam Ford’s DVD.

If you are in the market for a core workout fitness DVD, save your money folks and buy this DVD by Adam Ford. You won’t be disappointed. I highly recommend this workout DVD. From now on, when I am in the market for a new fitness workout DVD, I’ll make sure that I read the comments of other users first!
